Professor McIntosh recounts how the Bombardier beetle has inspired a raft of practical applications including fuel injectors, pharmaceutical sprays, fragrancers and fire extinguishers.
The Bombardier beetle sends out a repeated blast of hot toxic fluid with steam and water at 500 cycles per second in any direction using a sophisticated valve system. The innocuous looking beetle is thus able to spray a spider, frog, ant or bird and stun its opponent. Furthermore, the beetle can aim its weapon in any direction (even over its head) with pinpoint accuracy, and can reach distances of up to 20 cm with its spray. Professor McIntosh recounts how the Bombardier beetle has inspired a raft of practical applications including fuel injectors, pharmaceutical sprays, fragrancers and fire extinguishers.
With extensive education and experience with thermodynamics and aerodynamics, Prof. Andy McIntosh presents the truth of creation on a variety of fun and intriguing topics.
